Seeing the World with 20/20 God Vision

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[a] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[b] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! (Matthew 6:22-23)

Everyday we are bombarded with images. We see beautiful sunsets and laughing babies. We see home runs and perfect spiral passes. We see beauty in a variety of places. But we also see wars, famine, loss, death and heartache. We see the pain of the world.

Our eyes take in more than what mere words can portray. An image seers into our subconscious and will arise in our mind at the trigger of a sound, a scent or a moment. An image makes us feel - if we are open to being used as God's vessel.

If we choose to live our lives for Jesus, we begin to empathize with what we see in this world. Our eyes no longer see how the world sees, but rather we begin to see the world through the eyes of the Lord. We see His children in pain and need, which motivates a desire in us to help and to seek out justice. We see His children accomplish great things and we celebrate with them.

By choosing to walk with the Lord, you choose to take on His heart and His wants for this world. Your heart becomes transformed to want to seek justice, to give mercy and to love everyone - regardless of who they are.

But, if your mind becomes polluted and tainted by seeing the world through the skewed lens of the world's camera, your judgment will be reflective of how the world accepts or rejects the images that it sees. If your eyes are looking through the world's camera instead of God's eyes, your heart will become hardened to those in need and to those who succeed. And you will miss out on the great joys of being a Christian.

Living a life with Jesus can be hard. You will feel more deeply and love more fully which opens you up to more pain and more sorrow than someone who has hardened themselves; but you will also experience more joy and more passion.

As you go through this day, adjust your eyesight to try and see 20/20 with God's lenses - and discard the smudged lens of the world's camera. You will be amazed at just how clearly you can see.

Fun Fact

Myth: Sitting too close to the TV is bad for the eyes.

Fact: Although parents have been saying this ever since TVs first found their way into our homes, there's no evidence that plunking down right in front of the TV set damages someone's eyes. The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) says that kids can actually focus up close without eyestrain better than adults, so they often develop the habit of sitting right in front of the television or holding reading material close to their eyes. However, sitting close to a TV may be a sign of nearsightedness.

Question of the Day

What is the most beautiful image you have seen this week?
