12 Days....Jesus Wept...

Jesus wept...

The passage is considered the shortest in scripture and yet, it says so much. Jesus - Our Lord and Our Savior - the Redeemer of the whole world hurt enough to cry...

In the passage often quoted, Jesus' is saddened over the death of his friend Lazarus. Within moments he is going to raise Lazarus from the dead, so he knows what is about to happen and yet he cries with his friend's sisters. He shares in their grief. He shares their burden.

As Christians, we are called to do the same. We are called by God to share in the burdens of those we love, of those in our communities, of those who God puts in our path. Sharing each others' burdens means we will weep sometimes, but it also means we will laugh and we will dance and we will live.

Life might seem like it would be simpler if we kept to ourselves - only dealt with the problems that directly effected our individual lives, but in reality life is much easier the more we share. When you share your burden with someone else, the problem rarely seems quite as daunting; and when someone shares a burden with you, their problem seems less frightening to solve.

God gave us each other to help us down life's path so that we could learn more about what it means to love like Jesus.

Jesus wept over the death of his friend. He wept over the city of Jerusalem when he arrived the week of his crucifixion. He weeps when you are in pain. Jesus weeps because he has taken on our burdens. His willingness to do so lessens our own pain.

You have the ability to lessen someone elses burden...Simply reach out and offer a shoulder to cry on. Sometimes that is the biggest relief burden there is.

Scripture...

Fun Fact....
The Main Library at Indiana University sinks over an inch every year because when it was built, engineers failed to take into account the weight of all the books that would occupy the building.

(zero relevance to our leason...but interesting...)

Question of the Day...
Who is your best friend?
